Tillandsia, commonly known as air plants, is a genus of around 650 species in the bromeliad family, Bromeliaceae. These unique epiphytes are native to the forests, mountains, and deserts of Central and South America, the southern United States, and the West Indies. Unlike most plants, Tillandsias do not require soil to grow; instead, they absorb water and nutrients through their leaves from the air and rain, using their roots primarily for anchoring to surfaces like trees, rocks, and even man-made structures. They are popular for their striking foliage, which can range from silvery-gray to bright green, and their vibrant, tubular flowers. Easy to care for, Tillandsias thrive in bright, indirect light and require regular misting or soaking to maintain hydration. Their unique growth habit and minimal care requirements make them a favorite among indoor plant enthusiasts and those interested in creative plant displays.
